Friends, trannies, country-women, lend me your ears and welcome to my new column. As many of you know from my nothing-if-not-colorful memoir, Alice in Genderland, I'm a psychiatrist and a crossdresser. Through this unusual looking glass, I'll be exploring issues like crossdressing, transitioning, relationships, and sexuality.
I'm a Los Angeles based psychotherapist and psychopharmacologist and member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (formerly known as the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association) who has worked with many transgendered people, as well as gay, lesbian, bi, and yes even straight people. I welcome your feedback and ideas for future topics at Alice.novic@verizon.net.
URNA is pleased to be able to provide a space for Alice and the URNotAlone Community to interact via her Through the Looking Glass Column!
Shifting Gears
Dear Through the Looking Glass Readers,
Thank you for your support these past two years, but alas I must slow down the pace of my writing. As my children have gotten older, now eight and nine, they’ve gotten hard to ignore and actually a whole lot of fun. It has become increasingly difficult for me to carve out the time each month to compose a quality article. So, I’m now striving to sweep away enough of my commitments so that if my wife, Melissa, says she’s taking the kids to some silly movie on a Sunday, I can say, “Sure, I’ve got nothi... [more]
Seven Great Myths Among Us (MTFs)
Welcome back Through the Looking Glass, my friends. As MTFs, be we crossdressers, transsexuals, or those that love us, we have a number of myths that we use to soothe ourselves and to try to better our chances of being treated fairly. But just between us, don’t mistake these stories for the truth. Or better yet, do believe them; they may be more comforting and effective if you do, but in that case don’t read any further—and don’t say I didn’t warn you. And to make matters worse, I’m not going to debunk these myths with hard evidence,... [more]
More from Trisha van Cleef,
the Artist Concurrently Known as Paul Whitehead

T: I was married for 20 years, no kids, and marriage was fascinating but eventually disappointing. My wife was into my... [more]

I mean she lets it be known that she is Paul Whitehead, the professional artist famous for the surrealist album covers he designed for Genesis in the 1970s. And, get this, Paul Whitehead lets it be openly known that he is also a crossdresser named Trisha Van Cleef. Check out some great art and see for yourself on his/her website: http://www.paulwhitehead.com.

Through the Looking Glass, Column 18 (Mar 3, 2008)A Pillar and Part-Timer
Sorry, folks, but you’ll have wait for “Alice ’07: My New Experiences at Being Single.” Things are a little too touchy for me, Frank, and some of the men I’ve been involved with to cover at this time. So I guess I’ll have to pass up the big bucks th... [more]
Through the Looking Glass, Column 17 (Jan 29, 2008)Manhunt Over: Thank Goodness
